If it feels good it's alright....

Far more abstract than either of the Little Sister 45's or even "Dynamite" by 6IX, this is truly the most experimental recording Sly Stone ever made.

Now, Joe Hicks made some very nice records in his day, I don't mean to imply otherwise, but make no mistake, this is a Sly Stone record.....and nothing else on earth sounds quite like it.

Fyi, I'm not the only one who finds the comp "Listen to The Voices: Sly Stone In The Studio" fascinating. If you don't have a copy already, I'd def hunt it up.

Hope ya'll enjoy....Part 1, and Part 2, of "Life and Death in G & A".

  2. Yes, that's a great comp. I wish somebody would collect the two (?) Stewart Brothers singles as well. The one I heard sounded like Richard Berry or Young Jessie. -- Jon

  3. Gyro...always a pleasure to hear from you.

Jon...Unless I'm missing something [entirely possible], the only Stewart Brothers I know of are unrelated to Sly Stone. Actually I think there were at least two groups who used that name, so maybe I'm just confused?

Anyway, if you know something I don't, I'd love to hear about it. My knowledge of Sly Stone is very limited.

  4. Nope, you are correct, although in my defense, one of the Stewart Brothers was also named Sylvester, apparently.
My knowledge is even more limited than yours!

  5. Third the recommendation for that Sly comp. But I LOVE having these songs ripped from nice crackly vinyl, totally adds to the awesomeness ;-)

  6. I think there was also a version of this song by Abaco Dream but this one is definitely THE one.

  7. YankeeBoy...I agree, I like this version best. The Abaco Dream 45 is really good, but it's almost another beast altogether....much more structured. It too is included on the "Listen To the Voices" comp.

  8. Wow...never heard of this....have the Joe Hicks LP with "Ruby Dean" on it, which is "the jam" as the kids would say....well maybe kids who are adults now, lol
